Despite the national crisis that is going through the country in the supply of medicines, the Undersecretary of Health Prevention and Promotion of the Ministry of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, said that Mexico is prepared for the arrival of the coronavirus.
In a morning conference, the federal official said that, although no cases have been registered in Mexico. The virus will eventually arrive in the country. “I guarantee that the virus is going to arrive in Mexico, it is not that I like it, but it is something that we must have very clear and say it truthfully. Until now we have had seven suspicious cases that have already been ruled out, ”López-Gatell reported. The undersecretary explained that the previous week he met with the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer, and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, to analyze the mechanism of support for Mexicans in Wuhan, where the virus was first recorded.

The undersecretary also assured that if this situation changes, the population will be kept informed. “One, it will be informed with transparency. Finally, he said that the coronavirus is less aggressive than the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and also less aggressive than the Acute and Severe Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López said that the country is prepared for an eventual appearance of the virus in Mexico. "To give tranquility to the entire population, there are no risks in Mexico. Fortunately, our country is one of the most prepared countries and with fewer risks due to the affectation of this virus so that we are calm, of course attentive, but calm."
The Chinese Government reported last Monday that the death toll from the coronavirus increased to 106 and, 1,771 more cases of infection with a new virus have been confirmed, so it now has 4,515, with the virus expanding to Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, France, Japan, Vietnam, United States, Canada, Nepal, Cambodia and Germany.
