The State of Mexico is the fifth entity with the highest amount of money spent by the government whose use has not been proven, according to the Fugitive Money index made by COPARMEX.
With closure to the third quarter of this year, but showing the results of the third quarter of the 2018 public account, the Mexican entity reports 2 thousand 893 million pesos with clarification or recovery requested by the Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF); only behind Tabasco (2 thousand 935 MDP), San Luis Potosí (3 thousand 521 MDP), Tamaulipas (3 thousand 685 MDP) and Nuevo León (5 thousand 408 MDP).
In addition, the entity is part of the 13 states that concentrate 87% (31 thousand million pesos) of the expenditure without clarifying its use. The ASF audited 576 thousand 62 million pesos of the expenditure made by the states in 2018 with federal resources.
However, of that amount, the 32 states "spent 36 billion pesos without being able to verify their use," says COPARMEX in its indicator. In this sense, the Mexican entity represents 8.03% of the money without proven use in the country and the almost 3 thousand unclear MDPs represent 11.8% of the total audited by the ASF. In stark contrast, Querétaro is the only state with 100% transparency in its accountability to the ASF.
