The Local Congress approved by unanimity, an exhort to the state executive that a temporary forest closure happens, but with previous study, on the State of Mexico. As urgent politics to rescue and preserve the most important woods of the state and with serious evidence of sacking and worsening.
The last forest closure that was implemented on the State of Mexico, for the same reasons, was cancelled 24 years ago. Nevertheless, according to the numbers, the situation is even worse than it was back then. Because the woods are fragmented and they are victims of continuous sacking by the organized crime.
It is about the mountain ranges of the Nevado de Toluca, the sub-basin from the Valle de Bravo, the Izta-Popo and the Mountain Chain of the Cruces, besides from the Reserva de la Biosfera de la Mariposa Monarca.
The iniciative says that there are more than 363 thousand 9 hectares that are affected, which represents 34.16% of the total forest of the state. While the change of land use, has been decisive on the deforestation of the State of Mexico, with an annual deforestation average of 12850 hectares, every time that the regions or towns with more alterations on their woodland areas by the urban growth, are Toluca, Texcoco, Valle de Bravo, Tejupilco and Coatepec de Harinas.
The exhort was approved by unanimity of vows, but will correspond to the executive to decide, previous studies to organizations like Semarnat, and the Secretary of Environment, to decide the establishment of the temporal closure and its range, again.
