The president of the general council of the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico, Pedro Zamudio, considered that the disappearance of the electoral bodies in the states of the country (OPLES), as proposed at the national level, could affect the quality of democracy in Mexico.

He warned that the premise that "we disappear the OPLES and save resources" is completely false, because not only the possible costs involved in its liquidation are uncertain, but also that the costs of the elections could be increased, " someone would have to do it and maybe with an additional cost, "he said.

In a brief interview, after leading a session of the general council in which labor incentives were approved for six workers of the National Electoral Professional Service of IEEM, the counselor considered that disappearing agencies could be a setback, in any case changes could be made in the national and state legislation to reduce the current budgets allocated to agencies.
