The Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) and the Intercultural University of the State of Mexico (UIEM) signed a General Collaboration Agreement with the aim of promoting actions and activities that contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, the development of a political culture- democratic, as well as transparency, through the translation of laws, codes, books and documents to the five original languages of there in the entity: Mazahua, Otomi, Nahuatl, Matlatzinca and Tlahuica.

The President of the IEEM, Pedro Zamudio Godínez, pointed out that according to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, all peoples contribute to the diversity and wealth of the civilizations and cultures that constitute the common heritage of humanity. That is why we seek respect and promotion of their rights.

He expressed that according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of 2015, there is a significant percentage of the population of the entity that speaks some of the 5 original languages. So it is an obligation for public institutions to protect and promote the posterity of their cultures, languages, uses and customs, as well as their systems of social and political organization. Also guaranteeing that indigenous women and men enjoy and exercise their rights to vote and be voted on equal terms.

Therefore, the IEEM said through the signing of the Convention seeks to implement mechanisms of institutional collaboration to promote actions and activities that allow strengthening the political-electoral rights of indigenous peoples, a democratic political culture, transparency and accountability in electoral matters, promoting civic participation, civic education and encouraging the political participation of women, all free of discrimination and violence.

He indicated that, as the first action, the IEEM will work jointly with the UIEM in the translation into the original languages of the state in the guidelines for the presentation of applications for Access to Public Information and Access, Rectification, Cancellation and Opposition of personal data. As well as the public information request forms.

Meanwhile, Anibal Alberto Mejía Guadarrama, Rector of the UIEM, said that with the signing of the agreement citizens of the five original peoples of the State of Mexico will have information generated by the electoral body in their mother tongue. So that they know their rights and obligations and can participate with quality information in the electoral processes and build a stronger political culture.

Leonardo Carranza Martínez, full-time professor at the Intercultural University, mentioned in Matlatzinca and Spanish the explanatory statement of the agreement that will promote actions and activities that contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and development of a democratic political culture, transparency, access to public information and protection of personal data in electoral matters and civic education.

All the above through the translation of laws, codes, books and documents contained in electronic pages and institutional social networks, guides, formats, audios, videos, requests for access to public information and the exercise of access rights, Rectification, Cancellation and Opposition of Personal Data (ARCO) and in means of diffusion to the five original languages.

It is worth mentioning that Dora Elena Real Salinas, Executive Member of the State Council for the Integral Development of the Indigenous Peoples of the State of Mexico (CEDIPIEM), was also in the presidium; Asurim Jesui Salazar Vega and José Antonio Licea Cadena, General Counsel and Director of University Liaison and Extension of the Intercultural University, respectively.

The event was witnessed by the Electoral Councilors María Guadalupe González Jordan and Sandra López Bringas; the Executive Secretary, Francisco Javier López Corral; the Director of Citizen Participation, Liliana Martínez Garnica; the head of the Gender and Eradication of Violence Unit, Rocío de los Ángeles Álvarez Montero; Lilibeth Álvarez Rodríguez, head of the Transparency Unit; Igor Vivero Ávila, Head of the Electoral Training and Documentation Center, as well as the faculty and students of the different degrees of the University.
