After the 1st July poll for the presidency, Senate seats, federal & local deputations and town hall members, the State of Mexico´s political geography took a turn for the beginning of the 2018-2021period since 802 out of 1.591 posts will be held by women.

Thus, according to the Gender and Violence Eradication Unit of IEEM (Electoral Institute of the Estate of Mexico), based on the results of the ballots it is noted that the conformation of the 125 municipalities ‘Town Halls – taking into account the fact that the municipality of Tonanitla is still pending in tribunals- will be chaired by 50.41% by women.

In the view of the foregoing, it is stated that 39 women and 85 men will chair a town hall; In the case of the courts there will be 90 women and 46 men; the stage management will be integrated by 673 women and 658 men, giving a total of 802 posts chaired by women and 789 by men.

Regarding the Relative Majority Deputations, the results of the 2018 elections in the State of Mexico indicate that from the 45 seats of this principle, 22 will be chaired by women and 23 by men in the next local legislature supposed to start on September 2018.

The political participation of women in terms of gender equality is the result of the electoral reforms in order to warrantee gender parity in the candidacies and it is sustained in the federal and local constitution, as well as in article 9 of the Electoral Code of the State of Mexico (CEEM) in which the parity of opportunities between men and women of having access to popular election posts is established as a right of the citizenship and a obligation to the political parties.
