Number of murdered policemen this year grows

A report of the Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (IMCO)*, indicates that as a part of the violence contexts that the country is going through, the number of murdered policemen has increased during the first semester of the year, with 161 accumulated reports.

In one of them is indicated that, in recent dates, the images of aggressions against policemen and members of the army were public, for what the national request to place the defense of the human rights as the highest priority of governments and society. Also, it must turn into the defense of those who integrate our security forces.

It indicates that in these contexts of violence "the murder of policemen has been increased in alarming ways, men and women who ensure our safety do it in precarious conditions and without the social merit which the majority of them deserve ".

In agreement to a simple journalistic inventory, during this year, 161 policemen assigned to corporations of the three orders of government have died. Besides, the number of deaths is increasing. Only in the first half of June, 29 policemen were killed, this represents the fifth part of total deaths by the year.

Guanajuato, Jalisco, Guerrero, Veracruz and State of Mexico stands out by their amount of homicides. Those entities together accumulate the 60% of reported cases.

Also, the situation in Mexico City is very serious, as in San Luis Potosí, Chihuahua, and Puebla, a state in which seven policemen were killed in two days.

Like all others intentional homicides that are committed in our country, their deaths turn into statistics, without consequences do truly exist. Every murder in our country represents a tragedy, but it turns out particularly ominous that authorities remain not turning a hair against their murder, indicated the report of the IMCO.

" Therefore, we demand local and federal governments place their heads to their mandates and use all of their aptitudes to dignify the police function, to improve salaries and State benefits, to offer the minimal indispensable training to each police officer, and to make sure they count with the conditions and equipment which should allow them to perform their functions. How long will we have to wait to mobilize the country into a truly national police development program? ", questioned the IMCO.
