IEEM CONTRIBUTES TO DEMOCRACY FOR 24 YEARS

After 24 years of contributing to democracy and building citizenship, the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico has distinguished itself by holding 16 elections, to renew the members of the Town Halls, Provincials and the Government, disseminating in a timely manner results of the elections with total transparency, monitoring the proper registration of candidates and candidates members of the political and independent parties, in order to comply with gender parity and achieve plurality.

It also encourages democratic political culture, through different activities such as talks, conferences, contests, competitions, congresses, forums, seminars, book fairs; It also contributes with periodical publications on electoral matters and offers Postgraduate studies, thus promoting the practice of democratic values ​​among the population and promoting participation beyond the vote that is exercised at the polls on election day.

And since 1996, the first extraordinary sessions of the General Council were held in which relevant positions were designated as the Directorate of the Institute, the Secretary-General holders of the attached areas, as well as the integration of the Executive District Boards and Electoral District Councils.

While, in the first ordinary sessions, issues such as the establishment of a deadline for political organizations to submit their application to obtain registration as Local Political Parties, as well as the guidelines for the accreditation and development of citizenship activities for that were Electoral Observers, among others.

Thus, the electoral body has organized 12 ordinary elections, that is; 4 have been to renew the Government of the State of Mexico, whose Election Day was held in the years of 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017 and 8 to elect the members of the Legislative Power and City Halls, held in the years of 1996, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018.

There have also been 4 extraordinary elections for the renewal of City Council members: in 1997 in Ayapango; in 2003 in Chalco, Atenco and Tepotzotlán; in 2006 in Ocoyoacac and in 2016 in the municipality of Chiautla.

In this way, the IEEM continues to generate conditions that allow the free exercise of the political electoral rights of citizens, guaranteeing all security and certainty measures before, during and after the elections and preparing for the 2020-2021 Electoral Process in which will be elected to the members of the municipalities of the 125 municipalities and 75 local councils.
