The extradition trial of Karime Macías, at the end of the year

January 9th, 2019

The wife of the former governor of Veracruz, Karime Macías, will have his first extradition hearing on November 16 of this year.

The date, set by the Westminster Court of Magistrates of London, was determined at the request of the Attorney General's Office (FGR).

“After this investigation was stalled for several months during the previous administration, the FGR based on the request for formal international extradition submitted to the British government, the claim was arrested on October 29 and filed by court order at the station Charing Cross police in central London, ”the FGR explained in a statement regarding the arrest of Macías last year.

The statement adds that “this Thursday, January 9, the hearing was held at the Westminster Court of Magistrates, which was brief in which the defendant, the Court of the case, reiterated that in the event that he fails to comply with the precautionary measures on his bail, will be detained and will face his process in seclusion ”.

At the time, British justice had imposed bail of £ 150,000 pounds (approximately $ 3.6 million Mexican pesos) to face the process in freedom, a figure that Macías paid. The wife of the former governor of Veracruz should only appear daily at the police station closest to her home, will wear an electronic bracelet, her passport is secured, and cannot go to any international departure port or buy travel tickets.
