Within the framework of the International Youth Day, the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) promotes democratic values among young people, who know their rights and the importance of electoral processes, said Liliana Martínez Garnica, Director of Participation Citizen, emphasizing the importance of this sector of society increasing its participation in public affairs.
When participating in the “Behind your vote” program, he mentioned that on August 12, International Youth Day is commemorated, a sector of the population that has been relegated, undervalued and even discriminated. This celebration seeks governments to take measures regarding the problems that affect them and promote the role of young people as essential partners in the processes of change.
He said that currently, according to the United Nations Organization (UN), there are 1800 million young people in the world from 10 to 24 years old; of which 1 in 10 lives in conflict zones and 24 million do not attend school.
Martínez Garnica recalled that today young people between 18 and 29 years of age are a little more than 30% of the Nominal List of Electors of the State of Mexico, also specified the level of participation of this sector during the local elections of 2009, 2012 and 2015.
