May 20th, 2019

Thus, to start the event, the President of the IEEM, Pedro Zamudio Godínez, mentioned that the creation of this type of feedback spaces aims to promote and develop the political and democratic culture and in this case. So that, the public knows about the importance of public money received by political parties, and how it contributes to democracy.

In order to moderate the presentations, the Electoral Councilor of IEEM, Daniella Durán Ceja, made a summary at the end of each intervention in a timely manner.

To start, the National Electoral Institute (INE) Councilor, Pamela San Martín Ríos y Valles stressed that they must ask how to make better political parties, since they are preponderant entities for democracy.

During his speech at the event held the IEEM Auditorium, she added that the response to the above, makes reference to the fact that it is important to encourage the participation of the militancy within the political institute, so that they are not alien to the citizenship. As well, strengthen the inspection mechanism with more and better verification controls of the public resource.

Later, the Doctor in Political Science from Vanderbilt University, Alejandro Díaz Domínguez, explained that if the funding of political parties were reduced, they would probably cut resources in important areas such as in supporting the leadership of women. Small and medium-sized parties, as well as newly created parties would not have the necessary support for their development, so instead of decreasing, an adjustment should be made to it.

The Doctor in Social Studies by the UAM-I, Pablo Javier Becerra Chávez, gave an account of how the financing process of the political parties has developed, which is strengthened by the electoral reform of 2014. In which the calculation of the formula, which is Electoral Register for 65% of the Unit of Measurement and Updating (UMA), was approved.

He also explained that currently the issue of financing has also accommodated different proposals in the current Legislature, where it has been mentioned that the UMA went from 65% to 32.5%, and mentioned that what is missing is that they made clear why the percentage.

Finally, there was a question and answer session on the subject, which, according to the participants, is controversial, so clear financing rules must be established to benefit the citizens.

The Electoral Councilors, María Guadalupe González Jordan, Sandra López Bringas and the Councilors Francisco Bello Corona and Miguel Ángel García Hernández attended the event. As well as the Executive Secretary Francisco Javier López Corral, representatives of political parties, authorities and electoral officials and the public.
