After the announcement of the denomination of origin of the mezcal in 15 municipalities from the State of Mexico, the producers from the State of this ancestral beverage wait that this can be sold to a better price and with that improve the living conditions of their families.

The municipalities which achieved this denomination, it was given by the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) -Mexican Institute of the Industrial Propriety- are Almoloya de Alquisiras, Amatepec, Coatepec Harinas, Ixtapan de la Sal, Luvianos, Malinalco, Ocuilan, Sultepec, Tejupilco, Tenancingo, Tlatlaya, Tonatico, Villa Guerrero, Zacualpan and Zumpahuacán.

They are almost 700 producers in all the state whose mezcal tradition comes since more than a century, because the families that dedicate to this activity have achieved maintain in the artisanal status, factor that gives to the producers of the State of Mexico an additional attractive that draw to the buyers of the, until recently, agave distilled and today mezcal from the state of Mexico. .

Like the case of the distiller El Palmar, whose owner Don Ignacio and his family have dedicated 20 years of their life to produce the beverage which “cure all disease”, He assures that this denomination of origin, although they were taken by surprise was a big news to all the producer of the region.

“Here, in this zone of Malinalco there are at least 50 distillers, here the buyers came, and they bought the decanters of 20 liters to other states of the republic in where already the denomination of origin is, to re-sold with labels to higher prices” assured Don Ignacio.

In all the territory of the state of Mexico they are around 2 thousands 8 hundred people directly beneficed of the production of mezcal and more of 20 thousand whom obtain an indirect benefit by the crop of the agave, production, distiller, bottling and selling of the beverage that it is used “to all good too”.

“Thanks to the Government of the State of Mexico the mezcal producers have had important supports to the constructions of our roofs, just in this community were beneficed to almost 10 distillers to whom support us with the material to the construction and we put the workforce, that bring to us a saving of almost 300 thousand pesos by producer” emphasized El Palmar owner.

It is noted that as a support to the mezcal producers of the State of Mexico, they displayed their products in the Expo Mexico Alimentaria Food Show 2018, with the objective of generating business appointments that helps them to sell their products in other states of the Republic and eventually get the exportation quality.
