City hall of the state’s capital generates the first aid to the people affected by the earthquake

The government of Toluca sent the first material and technical support to the low-income families who were affected by the last 19 of September earthquake in order to rebuild their damaged properties.

Such is the case of Mrs Dominga Hernández, born and raised in San Diego de los Padres Cuexcontitlán, who said that after the earthquake, her house, built more than 60 years ago with adobe and wood got cracks on the walls of the bedroom, kitchen and dining room as well as on the windows.

This situation encouraged her to ask for the municipality’s support to fix the problem and she said “I was surprised that the answer came really fast, they came to check and supervise the damages in several areas and I feel more calmed with it.”

Heritage of her mother, Mrs Dominga’s house was improved little by little as the years went by: cement floor and cristals on the windows. She has spent all of her life in this place and it is hard to accept that her house could stand as much as possible and that’s why she decided to build with the government’s support some rooms on the back of the property, in which she says, she will feel more confident in case there is another earthquake.

After the checking made by different institutions of the government of Toluca, it was determined that the damages aren’t dangerous for the sake of the people living there, although, they recommended to strengthen the whole structure and if it’s needed, to replace the metal sheets that are damaged. The head of Public Works of Toluca informed that the roof will be built through a program called “Techo Firme” (strong roof), with the resources of the Fund for the Social and State Infrastructure (FISE in Spanish) 2017.

On another checking, Ana Delia Monroy, who lives on Fray Servando St in San Pablo Autopan, said that in the moment of the earthquake she was inside her house with her 3 kids, when the joists that hold the roof started to crack and the walls started to tilt so they immediately went out of the place.

Overwhelmed and worried for losing the little she had, Ana Delia asked for help to rebuilt her home, and as a response to her call, the government of Toluca will send machinery to put away the debris and send also construction materials, while the handwork will be given by the family itself.
