Durazo appears for failed operation in Culiacán

October 31th, 2019

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Alfonso Durazo, appeared this afternoon in the Federal Chamber of Deputies to answer questions arising from the failed operation to detain Ovidio Guzmán.

Accompanied by the secretaries of the National and Marine Defense, he defended the decisions taken in the operation of October 17. He also ensured that in the national debate they face different visions: the one of those who want to fight organized crime no matter the costs, and "that of those who think that the bloodshed that we have suffered for years has been enough". He added that the military strategy of the use of force has not generated significant progress in the fight against drug trafficking, hence the strategy did not work.

He also said, "There will always be time to capture those who commit crimes and we will go for them to pay for their misdeeds." In addition, he pledged to "deliver a country with tranquility and peace" at the end of the López Obrador six-year term in 2024.
