The stage of accusations begins that will determine if you remain in prison

HIGHLIGHTS

The investigation against Juan Collado is finished

January 27th, 2019

The control judge of the Federal Criminal Justice Center of the Northern Prison, Jesús Vázquez Rea, ordered the closure of the complementary investigation against the lawyer Juan Collado.

The judge granted 15 days to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to present the accusation and the prison sentence that is intended to be imposed on Collado. The decision was taken because both the FGR and Collado's defense decided not to extend the process further.

If the Prosecutor's Office files an indictment within that period, the lawyer's defense has ten days to respond. If these conditions are met, the judge will summon an intermediate hearing where the accusation will be exposed, the facts that will not be discussed will be agreed and the judge will specify the evidence that will be taken to the oral trial, so the closing of the investigation does not necessarily imply that Collado could get out of prison.

As reported on this website, Juan Collado, who has worked for former President Enrique Peña Nieto and for the Pemex union leader, Carlos Romero Deschamps, was arrested in July 2019 by the Attorney General's Office, accused of having alleged responsibility in the commission of crimes of organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin. One of the crimes charged to Collado is to be involved in the alleged purchase and simulated sale of the headquarters building of Caja Libertad, located in the state of Querétaro.
