Crime increases in Toluca during 2019: SESNSP

January 22th, 2019

Virtually all common fuel offenses increased their incidence in Toluca during 2019, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

Throughout the year, 24 thousand 891 crimes were recorded in the Mexican capital, which means an increase of 17.80% compared to 2018, when 21 thousand 129 common fuel crimes were reported.

The month that reported the most incidents was December, with 2 499 cases, in contrast to January, which had 1,616 incidents. It should be noted that, from January to December 2019, the trend in crimes was constantly increasing, with slight decreases in April and November.

During the year, 75 malicious homicides were committed, with February and April being the months with the highest number of homicides registered (nine each) and December with the youngest, with two malicious homicides in the month. In 2018, 64 malicious homicides were committed in the city, which implies an increase of 17.1875% in this illicit.

As for femicide, there are ten cases recorded in the year, with a greater incidence of events “with another element” and only one made with a firearm. December and September were the months that had the highest number of femicides, each one, against the first four months of 2019, which did not register cases.

In 2018, only two femicides were registered, one in December and the other in October, which, in theory, would represent a 400% increase in this crime. The assaults also rose. During the past year, 4,145 robberies with violence were committed in Toluca, with most of them being theft bystanders (888 cases). In 2018, 4,993 robberies with violence were recorded, of which 1,331 went to bystanders. This means an increase of 01.27% in assaults, although there is a 47.86% decrease in theft to transient.

The threats also increased. If, in 2018, 106 cases were registered, in 2019 159 cases were reported, an increase of 50% in problems in Toluca. Kidnappings, on the other hand, decreased. In 2019, nine cases were registered, against 16 confirmed in 2018, which means a decrease of almost half. The first year of Juan Rodolfo Sánchez's government was ineffective in addressing the problem of insecurity in the Mexican capital, despite the mayor's emphasis on the issue of security during his report last month.
