1st Memorial for Femicide Victims Installed in Edomex

February 5th, 2019

In the civic square of the capital, the first Memorial of one of the hundreds of femicides that remain unpunished in Edomex was placed on Wednesday.

This is in memory of Fatima Quintanilla Gutierrez, the 12-year-old girl, who in 2015 was viciously killed by three subjects who first kidnapped her and then ended her life, just meters from her home in Lerma.

This Memorial, of a total of 35 that will be placed in various parts of the State of Mexico, seeks to make visible and humanize the victims of femicide and homicide in Edomex, in order to avoid their forgetting, but also to somehow exhibit the impunity that surrounds the cases. The memorials are part of the campaign "Against Impunity and Oblivion" and is part of a new effort by various groups and activists to combat the lack of justice in the femicidal phenomenon that has plagued Edomex for almost a decade.

The members of various groups such as "Ni una menos" and "If they are not all of us", were previously planted in front of the central balcony of Alfredo del Mazo's office, to demand justice in a silent action that only consisted of deploying the blankets with the photos of the victims waiting for justice, while waiting for the arrival of the simple but heavy iron structure, painted pink, which shows the history of the femicide of the little girl, as well as one of her photos, from when she graduated from elementary school, only months before she was killed.
