Breast cancer has now become one of the leading causes of death in women worldwide; In Mexico, 16 out of every 100 thousand women die from this disease, according to INEGI data.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that originates in breast cells, a malignant tumor being understood as a group of cells that grow in a disorderly and independent way, which tends to invade surrounding tissues, as well as distant organs (metastases ), according to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

October is considered the "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" worldwide, a commemoration that is known by 85% of women in our country, according to a survey by De las Heras Demotecnia, who asked women over 18 years nationwide, on this issue and the care they have about it.

The survey conducted by the Mexican firm shows that 25% of respondents have a family member who has had breast cancer.

This disease can be detected clinically by a mastography or also called mammography, a radiological study capable of detecting early cancer when a tumor is not yet palpable.

This study only applies to women over 50 years of age, or to those who are under that age but have a family history of breast cancer or suspicion of suffering from it after self-examination.

According to the Mexican firm's survey, 57% of women in our country said that a mammogram has already been performed, while 43% indicated that this type of study has not yet been done.

Of the universe of women who still do not have a mastography, 44% say they have no age to get a study, 12% argued that they do not have time, 10% did not know that this type of study had to be done, 9% are afraid of As a result, 3% do not believe it is important, while 1% indicated that they fear the radiation to which they are exposed in the study, and only 1% of the respondents mentioned that this type of study does not work.

This study asked respondents from what age women should have a mammogram, 55% said that after 40 years, while 8% say that after 30 years and 24% said they did not know.

Early detection remains the most important point in the fight against this disease. When breast cancer is detected at an early stage, the chances of cure are greater, however, if it is detected late it is rare that curative treatment can be offered.

When asked the Mexicans every time they perform breast self-exploration, 40% indicated that they self-explore monthly, while 14% do so weekly, 10% are reviewed every year, and only 12% indicated that they have never explored themselves.
