Judge sentences couple from Ecatepec for violations to burial laws

April 24th, 2019

A judge from the Judicial Power of the State of Mexico handed down a 30-year sentence in prison to Juan Carlos Hernández Bejar and Patricia Martínez Bernal for violating the laws of burial, related to the illegal transfer and clandestine concealment of human remains.

It is the first sentence facing the couple, arrested last October, who also face at least seven other cases related to women murder.

The 30-year sentence, which was ruled by the judge, for the offence "to whom conceals the remains of a human being or corpse, in order to hide the involvement of an illegal crime."

The Attorney General's Office of the State informed about the sentence and clarified that the couple had been linked to the process for crimes committed against respect for the dead and violation of the burial laws. However, the Public Ministry requested this crime be reclassified for the crime to which they were finally sentenced.
