For first time in its history, the UNAM enroll in a bachelor’s degree to a 12 years student
The history will enter the Facultad de Ciencias (FC) -School of Sciences-. With the first 12 years old student in a bachelor’s degree of the UNAM, it is open a chapter of inclusion in the university life.
The first kid student of this university is called Carlos Antonio Santamaría Díaz, who already obtain knowledge in the Facultad de Química (FQ) -School of Chemistry-, in the Centro de Ciencias Genómicas (CCG) -Center of Genomics Sciences- and in the Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales (IIM) -Institute of Investigation in Materials- where he took courses and some subjects and made practices separately.
He is ready to start his semester in the morning of August 6th, and he definitely will be the only student that come with his parents to the door of the classroom.
Carlos stares meanwhile take his card between the thumb and the index finger are his account number, assigned just like the others. He imagines his first steps in the biomedical physics degree, which also is a younger career of the National University, whereby came before achieving 105 hits in the Concurso de Selección de Ingreso (contest of selection of entrance) to the school cycle 2019, as every one student, without concessions nor favoritism.
He won’t an infant in giants land, nor an adult stuck in his guns disguised as a child, he is a student with high cognitive capacity, whimsical, blushing, that he has challenged to the time and to the administrative conventions. The way has not been generous nor comfortable, but with the charisma of his tomorrow vice, he adverted a metaphor: “I just want study; if they closed me the doors, I will come in through the windows”.
The challenge will be every day: fight against the skepticism before his capacities and achievement, because also it will be the first time that his classmate, teacher, and the university community have in puma land to a bachelor’s degree student so young. it will be a collective growth.
