Dying in State of Mexico
In absolute numbers, became the entity with the highest quantity of murders and executions in 2017 and the most dangerous for women, since femicides were committed here more than in another entity of the country, according to INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) and the General Executive Secretariat of Public Security.
According to its preliminary information, in 2017 three thousand 46 homicides were committed in the State of Mexico, 278 crimes more than the past year (2016), becoming the worst year since 2013, in which it recorded three thousand 311 murders while Eruviel Ávila was still governor of the State. This means that the last year, eight homicides were committed per day.
However, the State of Mexico does not have the highest record of homicides in the country, this spot belongs to Colima with 113 murders per 100 thousand inhabitants, almost near to the national average of 25 murders. For that matter, the State of Mexico has a rate of 18 murders per 100 people, and it is the highest number since 2013, year where it registered a rate of 20 murders.
That said, it is important to mention that the homicides are divided in intentional homicide and culpable homicide; the first one agrees to the Intentional act of killing someone, while the second one refers to a more accidental fact. According to numbers of the General Executive Secretariat of Public Security, during 2017 in the State of Mexico 2 thousand 32 intentional homicides and one thousand and 16 culpable homicides were committed, with a total of three thousand and 48 homicides. In fact, there are two more than those that the INEGI recorded.
From that year, May was the month with the highest rate of intentional homicides, giving a total of 194 murders of this kind, while December was the month with the highest rate of culpable homicides with 108 incidents, despite the campaign promise emitted a little more than a year ago by the governor Alfredo del Mazo, which consisted in minimize the insecurity during his three first months in charge.
FEMICIDES
This severe situation is given without the number of femicides, because it is also according to the General Executive Secretariat of Public Security that the State of Mexico finished its first semester of 2018 with the first place of women homicides with 39 incidents, almost 1 murder per week.
In the State: Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl, and Tecámac lead the list of municipalities with the biggest incidences, each one with four femicides during the first semester of this year and consecutively remaining from the ninth to eleven places nationally.
This situation is even more dramatic when, according to the General Executive Secretariat of Public Security, all along 2017, 57 femicides were committed in the State of Mexico. The fact of concluding the first half of the year with a 68.7% of this crime in 2017, the projection is that at the end of the year, femicides and homicides will continue to rise in the State of México.
