In the midst of a pandemic, GEM leaves Ecatepec without water

May 20th, 2020

During the month of April and May, the government of the State of Mexico cut 518 million liters of drinking water from the inhabitants of Ecatepec, a situation that puts the health of 600 thousand residents of neighborhoods in the so-called Fifth Zone at risk during the current pandemic of Covid-19.

"I make a very strong call, a claim to the government of the State of Mexico because I need to restore the 19% of the water that has been taken from us," said Mayor Fernando Vilchis Contreras when presenting the Project for the Strengthening of Water in Ecatepec.

He stated that so far they have not received a response from the entity's Public Works Secretary, on which the CAEM depends, so direct intervention by Governor Alfredo del Mazo Maza is necessary to solve the problem, which affects thousands of families of Ecatepec, which is aggravated by the health emergency due to the coronavirus.

"It is an electoral political issue, which they obviously want to put pressure on the municipal government and the municipal government had demanded for practically a month ago that it put us level with the water. And today we have to go out with the evidence in hand to tell them that it reduced 19% of water, which is a genocide that in the midst of a pandemic and a critical situation has led the population to this extreme, "he reiterated.

Since last February, the CAEM reduced the supply of water in blocks to Ecatepec, a situation that worsened last April, when it decreased more than 518 million liters that month, a situation that persists in May and affects thousands of residents.
