The former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, arrived at 11 am today in Mexico after accepting political asylum.

Together with the former Bolivian president, comes his former president, Álvaro García Linera, and his Minister of Health and former president of Congress, Gabriela Montaño. In a brief message upon arrival at the airport, Morales thanked the Mexican government, which granted him asylum for "humanitarian reasons." "We are very grateful because the president of Mexico and the Bolivian people saved my life," said the former union leader.

In his message, he also took the opportunity to attack the opposition that caused his resignation. "They burned electoral courts, burned the houses of our authorities, ransacked my sister's house, ransacked my house in Cochabamba, with intimidation policies they wanted to denounce two of our mayors, the governor of Potosí ...".

"So that there is no more bloodshed, more clashes, we have decided to resign," he said. In this sense, the former president blamed the protests and the harsh environment in Bolivia, not the multiple irregularities in the elections documented by international organizations led by the OAS, but that it is of indigenous origin. "I thought we were done with oppression, with discrimination, with humiliation, but there are other groups that do not respect life, except homeland."
