The need to keep COVID-19 out of homes has generated a series of recommendations to avoid contagion, "but just as vitally important is knowing what to do if the virus is already at home and has found shelter in a family member", affirmed Dr. María de Los Ángeles Dichi, head of the Head of Medical Benefits of the OOAD IMSS State of Eastern Mexico, who explained that when a person is detected as a suspect, “they must stay 14 days in an individual room or in case this not possible, in a place that can guarantee a minimum distance of 2 meters with the rest of the family. ”

She added that in these cases it is necessary to use mouthguards for everyone indoors and to perform hand hygiene constantly. "The common areas must be constantly ventilated, cleaning must be carried out daily and the patient's personal clothing and bed must be washed with hot water and these garments must be for their exclusive use," she stressed.

The specialist insisted on the constant cleaning of commonly used surfaces and disinfection with dilute chlorine and said that "the patient must wear a mouth cover at all times, cough or sneeze, covering himself with his flexed elbow, and in case of using disposable handkerchiefs, deposit them after using them in a special garbage can with a bag that must be closed efficiently ”.

She commented that the number of visits to the house should be restricted and only one person, if necessary, should be attentive to the care of the patient, who should perform hand hygiene with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds or use an antiseptic gel containing 70 percent alcohol after any contact with the isolate or its immediate environment.

The Doctor commented that if during the 14 days after the exposure the relatives, including the caregiver, develop symptoms, they should go to the Family Medicine Unit for evaluation and medical attention.
